Article from the Tampa Bay Business Journal 9/5/2007
Tampa Bay area workers aren’t feeling as good about their jobs lately, as the newest Hudson Employment Index shows.
Worker confidence fell for the fourth consecutive month locally to 88.2 in August, down 3.4 points from July and more than 30 points from the start of 2007. The local index is also well below the 121 reading taken by Hudson in August 2006.
Several factors figure into the Bay area index:
o Only 7 percent of local workers rated their finances as “excellent” in August, down from 10 percent the previous month. The response had been as high as 20 percent earlier this year.
o The number of employees who said their financial situation was improving fell to 32 percent over the month, down three percentage points.
o Fewer workers were happy with their job, at 76 percent in August from 79 percent in July.
Nationally, the Hudson Employment Index fell 6.6 points to 99.2, its largest one-month drop in August and the weakest reading in the last two years. The national index is based on responses from approximately 9,000 workers.
