The cost of broadband internet is a funny thing. Many companies advertise really spectacular deals but there is always the mouse print and the asterisk. Like Verizon and their really great deals, that is if you like a connection slightly better than dial-up.
I was reading in this months WIRED that we pay in the U.S about .49 per 100 KBPS, sounds like a lot maybe? It works out to be about 0.01 percent of our monthly salaries, not that bad to stay connected with friends and family. BUT and this is a big BUT,in Saudi Arabia it is and no this is no typo, $571 per 100 KBPS. So yeah we have it really good over here. Other countries that round off the list, Kazakhstan is surprisingly affordable at a mere $52 per 100 KBPS, that means Borat can still chat to his family even when he is off in the States making a glorious cinematic epic. We don’t have it wrapped up in the U.S though, there are a couple of countries cheaper than the U.S, I know believe it.
South Korea has some of the fastest connections and lowest cost at a ridiculously low .08 per 100 KBPS. And our northern friends in the Netherlands enjoy a delightfully low price of .14 per 100 KBPS. So maybe there is some reasoning behind the low cost of these two countries, land mass in those two countries are like two U.S states so we are still doing pretty well over here.
