Unlocked iPhone, Why not?

August 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A new Jersey teen has completed a successful hack of the iPhone and has made it unlockable. That’s cool and all but it still will only work on the GSM network and you have two choices in the states; AT&T and T-Mobile. Two companies I would rather not deal with and have had previous negative experiences with AT&T. I know Verizon was offered the opportunity to get in on the action but refused due to the contract terms that Apple offered, Apple wanted a piece of VZW pie, and Verizon refused.

Now of course all these other people out there want to make a quick buck on this new angle and exploit the system. The 17 year old,  George Hotz, did it to see if he could and doesn’t plan on making anything off the deal. But, others see this as a lucrative market especially overseas where the limits are boundless. It will be interesting to see what all transpires.

Bookstores and MLM?

August 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I was in the bookstore with my Fiancee and her sister today and was perusing the business section. I was approached by a man who asked if I was in sales/marketing and swiftly replied NO. He then tried to continue a conversation about this company that he works with on the side, aptly named LTD, Leadership Team Development. After a few minutes a light went off inside my head and I began thinking, MLM, MLM.

I humored the man for a few more minutes and politely excused myself from the conversation. Just out of curisousity I did some googling and found the company to be none other than a MLM scheme. I had been approached in another bookstore a few years back by a similar type of person. Seems to me they look for prospects in the hope of luring in young people. I post this hoping that it will save someone the time and frustration of getting involved in a MLM or Pyramid Scheme. If you are unsure of the terminolgy a quick trip to wikipedia will enlighten you to the age old technique. Many MLM’s may appear to be legit but many are designed for failure and slim profits, I am not an expert on MLM so do not follow my advice without doing some of your own research but as far as I am concerned it seems as though it is best to create something original rather than hopping on the band wagon with other people that want to get rich quick.
