This is a real shocker, Old people watch more T.V, Nielsen reports

August 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you but I personally think T.V is usually a waste of time with the exception of a few of my favorites; The Simpson’s, Family Guy, House, Entourage, and a few others that have some sophistication attached to their scripts. I watch them on DVD anyways. My time, my terms that is the way that I watch.

Older people on the other hand grew up with what a T.V that was Black and White. They didn’t even have DVD’s or Tivo. People are creatures of habit and they do what they know and have done for so many years. You can’t fault them for being consistent.

These are Nielsen numbers:

The research firm estimates the number of U.S. TV households will total 112.8 million by Jan. 1, 2008, an increase of 1.3% since last year. Baby boomers are migrating into the older demo groups (55 to 64) which grew 3.9%. The younger gen grew only by 0.3% from last season, that is hopefully a good thing but I’m guessing the shift went from T.V to web. Just something to think about.

Have you driven a Ford Lately? Ford CEO wants to bring it back…

August 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“Ford Motor Co. needs to do a better job with vehicle branding and marketing”, according to CEO Alan Mulally. I think that makes sense, when things aren’t going as they should the best thing to do is change.

Mulally also believes that Ford changes model names to frequently. That could definitely cause some band confusion and hurt their sales.

Mulally told reporters “I can remember saying to my team, ‘How do you pick these names? It seems to me you just put out another product every year, you kill the last year’s one, you look in the dictionary and find another word that starts with E or F and you slap it on it.”

Explorer, Escape, Fusion, etc… I get it.

Toyota and Honda rarely change their model names, think about the Civic that model has been around since the early 80’s. Consistency. Mulally also said that maintaining and increasing brand equity was also a key goal.

Not sure if this is the right direction for Ford but who knows?

CEO of Country Wide,Angelo Mozilo, sees that greed leads to recession

August 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Thank you Mr. Mozilo. This guy is a pure genius. If Mortgage companies had originally imposed stricter lending requirements we wouldn’t be in this debacle. The housing market was bound to crash with they way builders where starting construction on new developments every week. This was purely greed driven and now we are all facing the fallout.

Mozilo said the turmoil in the mortgage market and the ongoing housing slump are far from over. Really this is breathtaking news. Sub-prime lending had a huge impact on this as well and why would they really offer sub-prime loans to people who could barely afford to rent a home let alone buy a home anyways. PROFIT. That is why we are in this mess right now. I am all for making money but when you sacrifice the  health of the U.S. economy then that is going to far. It is obvious that these companies; mortgage, banks, builders and anyone else that was involved failed to practice their due diligence. As a recent college grad this is even more news that I didn’t want to hear. The successful people are the ones that can manage to survive when times are tough and find a way to actually make money when the economy is below optimal.
