Indiana company, Clarian Health Partners would like to enact a company policy that would allow them to fine workers who engage in unhealthy behavior. In 2009, Clarian employees will be charged up to $30 every two weeks if they fail to meet health standards. Controversial, yes. Effective, yes. Lawsuits, yes.
I would say that this will become a highly debated issue and there is no clear cut resolution. I can see a company rewarding healthy employees but punishing unhealthy ones will lead to a legal matter. I personally wouldn’t mind working for a companydon that paid me more for being healthy. I don’t think McDonalds will be implementing this policy anytime soon.
